I was initially drawn by Sue’s work advertised in the Hampshire Open Studios magazine.
My faithful and much loved Bearded collie , ‘Badger’ had died earlier the previous year and a portrait of him was always on the cards . I wanted to commission someone who was a specialist in animal portraits. I took the opportunity visit Sue’s studio during the open studios week and see her work, which was very impressive. We chatted about the options and different media . Sue was really helpful explaining the various options and also looking at the different photos I had of Badger and which ones would be best to work from.
Subsequently I placed the commission for an oil canvas portrait.
The result was magnificent. All the folk who knew Badger have been quite literally mesmerised by the likeness that Sue has captured. The wise, regal, curious looking nature of Badger, the bearded collie, that people knew and loved was reborn on canvas.
Sue also organised a stretched canvas print copy which is also magnificent, and was a gift to my mother. That canvas print has drawn the same praise from family and friends in the north. For my mother, who was so fond of Badger and loved spending time with him, it’s a very special gift that brings back treasured memories.
For me, the portrait, is unmistakably Badger, vividly capturing his look, character and representing both lovely family times and great companionship.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Sue for an animal portrait commission. She has years of experience and somehow captures the character as well as the image.
Thank you John!
